This patient presented to our office with a complaint about the crown on one of the front teeth. She had had it crowned several years ago but was never happy with it. She felt it was bulky, too dark, too opaque, and didn’t like the dark line around the gum. This kind of crown is still placed by many dentists today. After we explained we could fix it to match more closely her other natural teeth she agreed to treatment. Note how well the empress crown blends in more naturally and especially note how the gumms have healed once we were able to get the old porcelain to metal crown out. She is very happy with the results.

This patient works at the airport and deals with the public daily. She came to us looking to give her a beautiful smile. We discussed braces to help place the crooked tooth back in the arch but she declined on the amount of extra time and money it would cost. We extracted the tooth instead and then placed porcelain veneers and all porcelain crowns to rebuild her smile. We’ll do the lower teeth when she is ready to complete the smile makeover.

This patient was traumatically hit in the mouth and fractured his front tooth. We discussed options for restoring his tooth and deciced the direct composite veneer was the best approch. It’s a consevative treatment with little to no tooth structure being removed and about a third of the cost of a porclain veneer. I also felt I could match up his existing teeth the best with the composite vs the porcelain. As you can see a very beautiful restoration anf just 1 hour in the chair and no anesthetic.

This patient had a failing silver-mercury filling. The size of the missing tooth was too large to just replace it with a composite filling so some sort of porcelain restoration was required. We choose a conservative porcelain onlay instead of a porcelain crown. Although the procedures are very similar the onlay allows us to keep all of the healthy part of the tooth that would have to be removed with a crown preperation. Then we bond in the onlay just like we bond porcelain veneers. It’s more difficult than crowning the tooth but the end result is a healthier more conservative and natural treatment.

This patient had a porcelain bridge placed 10 years earlier. The back anchor tooth failed as it most often will with a bridge. The bridge was sectioned and back 2 teeth removed and the area was grafted. After a healing period of 4 months the implants were placed with a laser punch and the healing caps placed to start forming the gum tissue. After an additional healing period of 4 months the implant abutments and porcelain crowns were added. The front anchor tooth for the bridge was also replaced with a new all porcelain crown. Note the contrast in quality of the new porcelain work.

Single Tooth Implant
This patient had a missing anterior tooth for 20 years. He had been wearing a retainer to help fill the space but he wanted a more permanant solution. A dental implant and porcelain crown was the best solution. The patient is very happy with his new tooth and looks the look and feel of having something that acts and looks like a natural tooth.

Gwen
This young mother was very displease with her smile and wanted to gain the confidence to smile again. We placed 10 porcelain veneers and look at the transformation. Just read her letter below to better appreciate the change it’s made in her life.
Dear Dr Gleave,
I just wanted to thank you so so so so much for doing my teeth! It was the most amazing experience ever!! My life has totally been changed forever because of it. I am so much more confident now and don’t even think twice about talking to people. We just recently moved and it was so nice to be able to meet our new neighbors and people at our church and not even have to worry about them staring at my teeth. At my sister in laws wedding I was so excited to get the pictures done and they turned out so good! It was such a great feeling to not have to be self conscious! I think it is such an amazing thing that you do. I know I would never have been able to do this without you! Almost every day when I look in the mirror I think of how grateful I am to you and how you changed my life! It’s hard to put into words how thankful I am, so all I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! You are the very very BEST!!!
Sincerely
Gwen Hymas

Dr Gleave was asked to provide a cosmetic dental case for Channel 5′s Studio 5 TV show. This Davis County mother of 3 was chosen. She was not happy with her smile and was always felt inhibited to smile and would cover her mouth. Dr Gleave placed 10 porcelain veneers. What a stunning new smile. Notice what a dramatic effect it has on her whole face as well.

This patient will need a full mouth rehabilitation due to the extent of the decay, 4 missing teeth and a bad bite. The patient decided it would be best to stage the porcelain restorations in phases to help spread out the cost. So until the teeth can be restored permanantly with porcelain Dr Gleave cleaned out all the decay and placed composite fillings in one appointment. What a dramatic effect on his smile and confidence. The next phase will be to place 4 lower implants and then we can start staging the porcelain work.

Porcelain Onlays
This is a type of case we see often. The patient wanted to replace her old mercury fillings. Upon removal we found serious cracks and decay. Rather than grind the rest of the tooth away we decided to prepare teeth for a conservative crown or an onlay. The process is just about the same as doing a crown but we are able to save a significant part of the tooth.
